Abstract The class of chloroethanes comprises: Monochloroethane (ethyl chloride) 1,1-Dichloroethane 1,2-Dichloroethane (ethylene dichloride, EDC) 1,1,1-Trichloroethane 1,1,2-Trichloroethane 1,1,1,2-Tetrachloroethane (asymmetric Tetra) 1,1,2,2-Tetrachloroethane (symmetric Tetra) Pentachloroethane Hexachloroethane As with other chlorinated hydrocarbons, a common characteristic of these compounds is their low solubility in water and excellent solubility in most organic solvents, their volatility with water vapor, and their tendency to form azeotropic mixtures.
