Abstract On several locations in the Netherlands houses were built on polluted soil. Most of these locations were discovered during the systematic inventarisation, which has taken place in the past years. These cases, of which Lekkerkerk is the most well known, has caused great public concern, mainly because of the possible impact of the polluted soil on the health of the inhabitants.
